Jennifer Duran is a creative virtuoso. Her career gained momentum early on as she was the creative force behind the brilliant marketing and branding of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale for many years. She leveraged the skills she refined in that role and coupled them with her network and knowledge of design to launch her own firm, Pace Creative Design Studio. In fact Jennifer Duran herself was the creative force behind the branding and design of the 11Eleven logo and accompanying materials. Jennifer has been painting, drawing and designing all her life, it is in her DNA. Her designs are so captivating that they were recently sold at Target as greeting cards, cementing Jennifer’s propensity to bring exceptional inspiration into every project. How do you describe what you do:

If there is only one thing you need to know about me, it is this — I believe great design expresses your passion. As a graphic designer, I help entrepreneurs reach the next level of their business by creating designs that captures who they truly are. It’s not about a quick fix or following the current trends, it’s about taking the time to understand all the vital details behind their business. I take pride in hand-crafting unique designs that illustrates a brand’s core mission, passion and personality. Design is my passion and it is my mission to create great design for my clients.

What is the mission for your businesses’ giving:

What you do matters. Good causes matter, and they deserve great design! It's how I can help create a better world.

How do you give back to society through your business:

I donate my time every year to work on pro bono projects for non-profits. Design is a luxury that a lot of non-profits can’t afford and I like to give my expertise and skills to help those in need.

Charity or Charities of choice:

Child Crisis Arizona, Free Arts Arizona, Boys & Girls Clubs, Phoenix Children’s and Make-A-Wish

Why have you supported these causes:

These are just a few of the causes I support. I truly believe in their missions and the work that they do for the youth in our community and around the country. There is a special place in my heart for organizations that impact the lives of our youth.

Favorite business based on their giving efforts and why:

My favorite trend is that businesses are finally understanding the value and the impact that they can bring to our communities. Businesses like TOMS, FEED, Patagonia and Warby Parker are so inspiring and they show how you can build a successful business with giving back as a huge part of the overall mission. It gives me hope that more businesses will incorporate this philosophy in their strategic plans.

Who influenced your spirit of giving and how:

My mom – she inspired me to be like her and have her same passion for making a difference. Not only was my mom an Executive Director of small foster care organization in Oklahoma, she has spent her life volunteering and giving back in any way she could. She is my role model.

How do you believe fashion can aid philanthropy:

Fashion is a way for people to express their passions and who they are. Giving back can express those same things. The organizations you choose to support show who you are as a person and how you want to make the world a better place.

What is your biggest philanthropic accomplishment:

There is still so much more to accomplish, but I’m proud of the pro-bono projects that I’ve worked on as well as my role as the Design for Good Chair for AIGA Arizona. Through that board position, I have organized a design camp for youth at the Boys & Girls Clubs, I’m working on a design thinking card game with a group of other designers that will help unserved youth and I’m currently planning a Free Arts Day with Free Arts Arizona.

Favorite philanthropic quote:

I have two favorites:

"We can talk about making a difference. We can make a difference. Or we can do both."

— Debbie Millman

"You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world's problems at once but don't ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own."

— Michelle Obama
